Further to the project presentation during the annual Godotcon event for the Godot Engine community, Visteon Corp and W4 Games are excited to unveil a partnership centered on integrating the Godot editor into Visteon’s RenderCore™. This move enables Godot’s gaming technology readily accessible to automotive industry developers.

RenderCore™ by Visteon is a cutting-edge graphics suite that empowers designers and developers to rapidly implement vibrant 2D/3D graphics user interfaces on any platform. By utilizing RenderCore™, car manufacturers can harness the expertise of the expansive gaming community instead of the traditional method of recruiting or upskilling automotive-specific developers. RenderCore™ makes the design process more straightforward by removing the dependency on widely-used automotive-centric design tools. This not only enhances workflow efficiency but also leads to savings on licensing fees, allowing designers and engineers the liberty to innovate and introduce next-gen user interfaces for Instrument Clusters and Android Infotainment systems. In a strategic move, Visteon has chosen Godot as its primary editor to boost the capabilities of its RenderCore™ runtime technology. This integration has been achieved through a profound partnership with W4 Games and the broader Godot community, emphasizing Visteon’s dedication to offering robust enterprise support based on opensource principles.

The Godot Engine, renowned for being a freely accessible open-source platform, has been witnessing a growth trajectory of 60-80% annually within the gaming realm, making it especially appealing to the independent gaming community. Its transformative capabilities have been recognized by various industries beyond gaming, underscoring its potential relevance to the automotive sector.

W4 Games, an Irish startup emphasizing COSS (Commercial Open Source Software) built on the foundation of the Godot Engine platform, has been handpicked by Visteon to spearhead the evolution of enterprise initiatives rooted in Godot.

Sivakumar Songappan VP Of Software Engineering, Visteon stated “In pursuit of software excellence, Visteon has invested in developing inhouse technologies as a key differentiator in the evolution of Software Defined Vehicles. We are very excited in this collaboration with W4 Games in taking the combination of Godot with RenderCore™ to the wider automotive industry encompassing HMI development and gaming”.

Nicola Farronato, Co-CEO of  W4 Games said that “both W4 Games and Godot teams are really excited about this project and look forward to sharing it with the entire audience at  Godotcon. Visteon is a top partner of global scale for Godot and W4 Games and their collaboration will  expand the  impact of our free and open source technology beyond gaming. We look forward to building a strong and long term relationship and we are already in discussion for also showcasing this highly innovative project  in the US at upcoming high level events”.
