Second Dinner collaboration - media response

On 7th August 2024 we made the exciting announcement about our new collaboration with Second Dinner.  We were delighted to receive positive coverage from a number of prestigious media outlets and on social media.  An extract follows:

Chris Kerr, News Editor of Game Developer.com wrote about our founder’s desire to “go-in on the creation of an ecosystem with Godot Engine at its center” and that “Second Dinner wants to lend a hand by entering into a multi-year strategic partnership with W4”. [Link]

PocketGamer’s Aaron Astle, wrote “Now, with the added prestige of Second Dinner developing on the platform - a company best known for its Nuverse-published card game hit Marvel Snap - the number of titles built on the platform could well accelerate further.” [Link]

VentureBeat elected to focus on the investment aspect of the announcement with Dean Takahashi highlighting “To further strengthen the parties’ relationship over the long term, Second Dinner has joined W4 Games as a strategic investor”[Link]

Liam Dawe wrote in GamingOnLinux, “Clearly Godot Engine is going places, with more and more games using this cross-platform free and open source game engine”, adding “and now they’ve pulled in Second Dinner who developed MARVEL SNAP”. [Link]

GamesMarkt’s Marcel Kleffmann took the decision to highlight some hugely successful Godot titles such as Brotato (Blobfish), Halls of Torment (Chasing Carrots),  Dome Keeper (Bippinbits),  Of Life and Land (Kerzoven). [Link]

Upptics’ Casey Rock, saw this announcement as “a strategic move that could reshape the game development landscape”.  He further adds speculation about the wider impact, “As the industry watches this space closely, one thing is clear: Second Dinner’s investment in W4 Games and Godot could signal a new era of competition and innovation in the game development world.” [Link]

Godot Subreddit user Kieffu saw this news as “absolutely massive” and “very exciting” adding that “the first serious established studio to commit to making games with Godot” was a big deal, “the engine will undoubtedly benefit from feedback and experience with experienced industry pros”.
